Experience
20+ years of experience as a nationally certified High School and College Tutor for students requiring support in the areas of Reading Comprehension, Grammar/Punctuation, and Written Expression (for CP, Honors, and AP English courses). I am also certified in the area of standardized testing preparation (PSAT/SAT/ACT/GRE), specializing in Reading Comprehension, Writing, and Essay construction. In many cases, I continue with my students to provide personalized college counseling to assist in appropriate college searches, composition of Common Application essay, and preparation for independent study and successful time management following graduation. I have continued to work with dozens of students as they proceed to college and prepare for post-graduate studies. After a successful career as a speech writer on Capitol Hill, producer/interviewer/scriptwriter for Viacom (MTV-VH-1) in NYC, and most recently as a Project Manager the American Graduate campaign for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (PBS/NPR) in Washington, DC, I am now devoting my energy and my passion full-time to helping students achieve their academic goals and, ideally, become confident in their written and verbal skills. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I am the mother of three children with profoundly diverse abilities, including a challenging learning difference. They have all attended college and graduate schools (including top tier/Ivy League universities); I am an infinitely better teacher given my first-hand understanding that each student has unique academic requirements and career plans. Patience, focus, and flexibility are key to my success with my more than 200 students to date. I am happy to provide references from both current and prior parents and/or students.
